In 1986, 5-year-old Saroo Brierley fell asleep inside a parked train in central India. When he awoke, he was 1600 kilometers away from home and totally lost. After months of living on the streets of Kolkata, Saroo wound up in an orphanage and was later adopted by a family from Tasmania. As an adult, memories of his birth family inspired Saroo to use Google Earth to track satellite images of familiar landmarks near the train station where his journey began.
Saroo's story was adapted into the Oscar-Nominated film Lion. To celebrate the launch of the film, we built an experience on Google Earth to trace Saroo’s incredible journey.
